Disorders of Female Reproductive System: It is truly said that “Health is wealth”. We need to be healthy even if we want a healthy reproductive life. We must be conscious about our day to day activities. Life gives us back only when we give proper attention to life. There are so many reasons for the female reproductive disorders but some diseases are congential (From birth) and the most dangerous known cause is perhaps improper use of contraceptives and unhealthy lifestyle. Below are some common diseases discussed:
v BREAST CANCER: It is rarely seen before the age of thirty. Its incidence increases after menopause. Breast cancer is difficult to detect until it has spread to other parts of the body. The standard treatment for breast cancer is to remove breast (Mastectomy). Sometimes only lumps are found in the breast which may not be malignant (Cancerous).
v CERVICAL CANCER: It is relatively slow growing cancer. Its main dangerous impact is that it is unnoticed until it invaded other tissues. Cervical cancer may be treated by radiation or surgery.
v OOPHOROCYSTOSIS (Ovarian Cysts): Ovarian cysts are fluid filled tumours of the ovary. These cysts sometimes rupture and regress (get smaller) during pregnancy. In old women, they are removed surgically.
v ECTOPIC PREGNANCY: It is implantation of embryo at a place other than uterus, generally in the oviduct.
v OOPHORITIS: It is inflammation of ovary, usually caused by an infection.
v ENDOMETRIOSIS: It is the growth of endometrium outside the uterus. Symptoms include premenstrual pain or unusual menstrual pain. It is treated by hormone therapy. Endometriosis disappear at menopause or when the ovary is removed.
v MENSTRUAL DISORDERS: These include the following disorders- 1. AMENORRHEA: It is the absence of menstruation. 2. MENORRHAGIA: It is excessive menstruation. 3. DYSMENORRHEA: It is painful menstruation.
v INFERTILITY: Infertility in women is the inability to become pregnant. It may be due to failure to ovulate or some anatomical factors that prevents the union (Fusion) of sperm and egg (Ovum).
